Avalon Hollywood: The Best in L.A. Entertainment since 1927

April 01, 2018

When it comes to partying hard late into the night, Los Angeles has a club scene that rivals the best in the world, from Buenos Aires to Berlin to Bangkok. And for almost a century, Avalon Hollywood has been at the epicenter of cutting-edge L.A. entertainment. Founded in 1927 as The Hollywood Playhouse, this venue originally hosted the brightest Broadway stars and, by the 1940s, a nationally broadcast burlesque variety show. In the 50s the likes of Bing Crosby, Bob Hope, and Judy Garland graced the stage, and by the 60s, the venue was launching the careers of musical acts like The Jackson 5 and The Rolling Stones. The 70s and 80s brought in British heavyweights such as The Clash, Madness, and the Eurythmics, and the 90s, Nine Inch Nails, Nirvana, and Smashing Pumpkins. Today, the space is outfitted with state-of-the-art sound equipment that attracts the biggest names in electronic music from across the globe. CONTROL, the club’s ultra-hot Friday dance event, packs in partiers ready to sweat away the night to the beats of internationally renowned DJs like NERO, Skrillex, and Wolfgang Gartner.
